sket - poster analysis

1) the image is black with a red tint to it, even the black looks almost cherry coloured... we see 4 characters... all female but not looking very feminine. The character closest within the image is holding a baseball bat. All the girls look angry and in some sort of distress. the title 'sket' is in white which makes it stand out. There are some reviews in the corner in red and white writing... however the font is smaller than that of the title.

2)a) the characters look angry and somewhat 'rough' they also seem to be wearing scruffy clothes and they look to be some sort of gang in the way there pushed together.

b) there is no setting... the background is completely blacked out which adds a sense of uncertainty to the film.

c) seems to be somewhat of a violent film ass all the characters look to be angry and fighting possibly. However there is no certainty for the image.

quadrophenia analysis

Mise en scene - the full film is bursting with youth culture represented by Mise en scene, the mods are constantly dressed in the Parker's and tight clothes while the rockers are wearing the study and leather gear. the clothes give of an idea of a uniform. Although the clothes are not exactly the same they still consist of the same styles as the desired gang. For example, on the train towards the end of the film jimmy is seen wearing eyeliner and other make up... this is a sign of a 'mod' this is probably the most blatant part of advertising the 'mod' style within the full film... as it shows us close up at the make up on his face.

Representation of Jimmy - Jimmy was an individual lost within a crowd. he wanted to be individual but was the same as any other mod, he hated it and wanted to get out. However at the same time... he wanted to be part of a gang and liked the idea of not being on his own, in my opinion it was more a case of safety in numbers. He had an almost child like view on life, where he could do what he wanted and not care about the consequences... we see this when he quit his job, he had no plan for the future but didn't care, there's somewhat of a child like innocence to that and to a certain extent.... a child like nievity.

Ideologies -
living for the hear and now: a reference when jimmy gets his severance pay after quiting his job, he is very wasteful with it and doesn't understand that; that's all the money he's got left to live on.

the representation of self

After looking at my collage in detail, i have come to the conclusion that my identity is nearly entirely shaped by the media. From the instruments i play to the bands i watch to the drinks i drink. Even tattoos and piercings are some how influenced by the media. I am shown a tattoo/ piercing in a magazine, a TV show etc...this inspires me and everyone else to get something similar. The instruments i play are on most music sites, encouraging me to buy them and maybe planting a subliminal message in my head to a certain extent. Even the drinks i drink... i have the logo's plastered in my mind by advertisements, promotions etc.
In my opinion... we don't have an identity...our identity is made up of the types of media we have been exposed to. For example... A traditional 'goth' has been exposed to that of heavy metal music and dark clothes etc etc. So they wear the dark clothes and listen to the heavy metal music.
We simply don't have an identity!
